Classify

The Classify stage records the governance classification of an AI system using the applicable AIGO governance criteria.

When to use it

Use Classify after the AI system has been registered and relevant responsibilities have been established.

What to enter

Record the information needed to determine the applicable governance classification, including:
  • Relevant intended purpose and use
  • Applicable system characteristics
  • Relevant risk or impact considerations
  • Classification outcome
  • Reasoning supporting the classification
  • Person responsible for the classification, where applicable
  • Supporting evidence or references where needed
The classification should be based on the organization’s applicable governance criteria and available evidence.

What the result means

The classification establishes the governance category or treatment applicable to the AI system within the organization’s AIGO process. A classification is a governance determination. It should be supported by sufficient reasoning and evidence for the organization’s needs. Classification does not by itself constitute legal conformity assessment or certification.

What comes next

After classification, perform the applicable evaluation activities for the AI system. Continue with Evaluate.
