# Roles & Responsibilities

The AIGO Framework defines governance roles and responsibilities so that accountability for AI-related decisions is explicit and traceable.

## Purpose

Clear roles help organizations determine who is responsible for:

* governance decisions
* AI system oversight
* risk management
* control implementation
* approval decisions
* monitoring
* assurance
* incident response
* continual improvement

## Accountability

AI governance should not depend on a single role or function. Effective governance requires coordination among the roles responsible for organizational oversight, operational activities, risk, controls, and assurance.

Responsibilities should be defined clearly enough that significant AI governance decisions can be traced to an accountable role or decision authority.

## Role assignment

Organizations implementing AIGO should adapt the role model to their own structure.

Role names may differ between organizations, but the underlying responsibilities should remain clear.

## Relationship to governance domains

Roles provide accountability for the activities represented by the AIGO governance domains and lifecycle.

This creates a connection between:

**domains → responsibilities → decisions → evidence → assurance**
