# Assessment Schema

> Machine-readable representation of AIGO assessments.

# Assessment Schema

The Assessment Schema provides a structured, machine-readable representation of governance assessment activities and outcomes.

## Purpose

The schema supports consistent recording of assessments performed as part of AI governance.

Assessments may address:

* risks
* controls
* governance requirements
* implementation conditions
* lifecycle activities
* other defined governance criteria

## Assessment traceability

An assessment should provide a traceable connection between the subject being assessed, the criteria applied, the result, and any resulting actions.

A typical governance chain is:

**requirement or risk → assessment → finding → action → evidence**

This structure helps preserve the reasoning and evidence behind governance conclusions.

## Assessment outcomes

Assessment records can support the recording of:

* assessment scope
* assessment criteria
* assessment status
* findings
* conclusions
* actions
* responsible parties
* supporting evidence
* follow-up requirements

The exact permitted structure is defined by the canonical JSON Schema.

## Relationship to controls and risks

Assessments can provide evidence that governance requirements, risks, or controls have been evaluated.

This enables relationships between:

* AI systems
* risks
* controls
* assessments
* findings
* evidence
* approvals
* assurance activities

These relationships contribute to governance traceability across the framework.

## Relationship to evaluation

Assessment records can provide governance information that is relevant to rule-based evaluation.

The AIGO evaluation architecture keeps evaluation rules separate from the underlying assessment records. This enables defined evaluation conditions to be maintained independently from the records being evaluated.

The repository currently includes validation of evaluation fixtures and evaluation orchestration in addition to the underlying governance artifact validation.
