# Classify

> Classify an AI system in AIGO Framework Studio.

# Classify

The Classify stage records the governance classification of an AI system using the applicable AIGO governance criteria.

## When to use it

Use Classify after the AI system has been registered and relevant responsibilities have been established.

## What to enter

Record the information needed to determine the applicable governance classification, including:

* Relevant intended purpose and use
* Applicable system characteristics
* Relevant risk or impact considerations
* Classification outcome
* Reasoning supporting the classification
* Person responsible for the classification, where applicable
* Supporting evidence or references where needed

The classification should be based on the organization's applicable governance criteria and available evidence.

## What the result means

The classification establishes the governance category or treatment applicable to the AI system within the organization's AIGO process.

A classification is a governance determination. It should be supported by sufficient reasoning and evidence for the organization's needs.

Classification does not by itself constitute legal conformity assessment or certification.

## What comes next

After classification, perform the applicable evaluation activities for the AI system.

Continue with [Evaluate](./evaluate).

## Framework reference

Follow the applicable AIGO Framework guidance for AI system classification and classification criteria.
